But how do you combine your healthy habits with the unhealthy festival life?
1. Enjoy
"First and foremost, it's important that you enjoy yourself! You've probably been looking forward to it for a long time, so it would be a shame if you let a festival be overshadowed by focusing on your weight and whether or not you eat too unhealthy. The impact of a weekend of eating less nutritious food and not exercising for a while is really not that bad. Have fun and don't worry too much.”
2. Planning Is key
‘You know in advance that you will eat less nutritious food on the day of the festival. Then make sure you choose a healthy breakfast and a good lunch. There is often a supermarket or shop nearby where you can buy fruit and vegetables. So make use of that. If you've eaten nutritious food all day long, then that pack of chips in the evening really isn't the end of the world.'
3. Healthy Campaign
"Are you going for several days? It is also important to plan ahead. You go to the store anyway to stock up on food. All too often chips, cookies and sweets are chosen. Make sure you also bring fruits and vegetables. For example, you can eat cucumber or cherry tomatoes with your lunch. You will also find them in snack format, which is ideal as a snack. Do you normally eat coffee cakes every morning? Then try choosing whole wheat bread. That is also cheaper. Also bring some nutritious toppings and you're good to go.'
4. Alcohol - water - alcohol
“Alcohol flows freely at festivals. If you like to drink, I recommend drinking a glass of water after every glass of alcohol. That way you stay hydrated, you don't get drunk as quickly and the hangover won't weigh as heavily the next day.
5. One Drink Is Not The Other
Cocktails are the least nutritious drink. They contain a lot of sugar and quite a few calories. It is better to opt for pure drinks. The lowest calorie drinks in terms of alcohol are champagne and cava. Look after! Calories don't say everything when it comes to a healthy lifestyle, but alcohol doesn't give us real nutrients. All alcohol gives us is sugar, energy and pleasure. Beer also contains few calories, but we often drink larger portions of it.'
6. Go for zero
‘If you prefer to stick to non-alcoholic drinks, then zero soft drinks are preferred. Soft drinks also only give us energy and pleasure. So it's best to choose drinks that give you the most pleasure and the least energy (= calories).'
7. Sweating on the pasture
'You should certainly not throw your sports schedule in the trash during the festival summer. After all, you can do a lot of workouts at the campsite. Think of exercises such as squats, lunges, push-ups or burpees. You do not need any material. Also try to involve your friends in sports. If you agree in advance to exercise together once, you are also more inclined to do so effectively. You will feel fulfilled, which will allow you to enjoy the rest of your day extra hard. Don't forget that you do quite a bit of walking and dancing at a festival. That too is moving!'
8. Listen to your body
Try to sense what your body needs. If you only eat fast food and drink a lot, chances are you feel bad. Do you feel uncomfortable and bloated? Then your body wants to tell you something. So make sure you get enough nutrients and minerals. That way you also get more energy, you feel better about yourself and you go out to the meadow radiant.
